This book analyses the nuclear policy of India. the determinants of such a policy are investigated in two way: first, the policies of-the various governments in New Delhi from India’s independence up to Rajiv Gandhi Administration are surveyed; second, it explores the attitude of the Indian government towards non-proliferation measures, with particular emphasis on the issues such as the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the nuclear Weapon Free Zone concept in South Asia. the study suggests that in view of her security, scientific manpower, technical expertise and also its leadership role among the non-leadership role among the non-aligned and developing nations, India will keep the nuclear option open. India’s position and dominance in the South Asian region are likely to be bolstered by maintaining such option which would give her greater maneuverability in regional matters pertaining to South Asia.
