ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jaswant Singh Marwah
Born on 21st January, 1921 at Rawalpindi (now in Pakistan), Lt Col (Retd.) JS Marwah is a graduate of Punjab university, Lahore (now Pakistan) & post graduate of Punjab university), Patiala (Punjab). He became a commissioned officer in 1943 and served in the Corps of EME. He played active role in Quit India Movement, freedom Struggle, Independence and difficult Partition days. He is a veteran of World War II, took part in 1947-48 operations, 1962 Sino-India Conflict and the two Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971. After retiring from the Army in 1973, he was selected as officer-on-Special Duty as a Director in Archeological Survey of India, Govt. of India and made a significant contribution by submitting a report on the centrally Controlled Monuments and Museums of India to the Govt. he is a twice recipient of Nehru Awards from the Vice president of India in 1981 and from the president of India in 1984. He was given Journalism Award in 1987 from the Minister of Communications. He is an Author of number of books in English, Hindi and Punjabi which have been highly appreciated. Has an illustrious family being the father of general JJ Singh, Chief of the Army Staff, late Sqn Ldr SJS Marwah a fighter pilot in IAF and dr. Col. BJ Singh, a classified medical specialist in AMC. His only daughter professor Veena Gill is a Senior adviser in the Ministry of Higher education in Norwegian Govt. One of his Grandson Navdeep Singh is the National Tennis champion in Guwahati national games, 2007.
