This is a collection of research papers presented in the UGC and ICSSR sponsored National Conference on Indigenous People in India: Identity, Empowerment and Discontent held at Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya in West Bengal.
The volume aims at understanding the criteria of identity of the indigenous people in Indian context on the one hand and, on the other, it tries to identify the impediments towards their empowerment and the causes behind their discontent. It further suggests some remedial measures essential for survival of their culture and society. The papers analyse various issues of the Indian indigenous people from multidimensional and diachronic perspectives.
