The primary aim of this book is to give concise information on the control of insects for all who may be concerned with them, whether farmers, orchardist gardeners, or house holders. At the same time, it is hoped that the book will be of some service to school-teachers and those who are interested in insect as such. It is on this account that introductory pages on the structure and classification of insects have been included. Tasmania has a cool, temperature climate and lack the brilliant, showy insects of the tropics, nevertheless, few parts of the world yield, in so small an area, such a wealth of interesting insect forms, the majority of which have been little studied. The greater number of the illustrations is work of Mr. R. Kerr, B.Sc., At one time and others are by the author and his wife. Several references are made in the text to beneficial insect which have been introduced into Tasmania from New Zealand.
