The information search patterns of the users are different depending upon their personal attributes and environment. The main aim of present study is to examine the information search pattern of the science doctoral students in the electronic environment. How researchers search information, the type of information needed, the services they used and their priorities in searching for information are highly relevant, because they provide a basis for reorganizing libraries and information centers and reshaping their information support activities. The technological developments in recent years particularly in the area of computer, telecommunication and storage technologies have significantly changed the way we generate, collect, organize, present, disseminate, share and use information. The role of the librarian would change to accommodate their changing work environment. Librarians would need to be familiar with multi-platform systems in order to serve and aid their clientele. Their knowledge of organizing and indexing information for the researcher will have intrinsic value, especially for the end-users when they search the system. This study will help libraries and other information managers in India and other developing countries to develop information and communication technology based library system where the doctoral students can access and search the latest electronic information sources. This will be of great help to plan and develop well automated information and communication technology enabled library system.
