It is now universally accepted that the environmental crisis is one of the greatest problems of the contemporary world. Different groups are pondering over the predic – ament from their own discrete angles. Amidst several perspectives propounded so far, the Islamic perspective seems to be the most promising one since it accentuates the much needed process of moderation among various polemics and provide a strong basis for mass campaign in a large part of the world as regard the ongoing environment degradation. Motivation for the present contribution was provided by the work of Syyed Hossein Nasr, Ismail R al Faruqi and may other also who have played a significant role in generating ecological consciousness.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR A.R. Agwan

Done M.Sc from Udaipur University with specialisation of Fisheries and Ecology. Research Experience of three years in Swase-fed-fish culture as junior and senior fellow of Council of Scientific and Indian Research, New Delhi Served as Assistant Professor from 1978-80 in a college affiliate to Udaipur University. Founder Secrtaary General of the IOS (1986-93), Founder and Chairman Milli Educational Trust. Secretary Student Islamic Trust (1993-95) Authored the article'Toward Ecological Consciousness which was distributed by the World Council of Religion and Peace in Rio de Janerio Brazil in 1992 on the occassion of the UN Conference on Development and subsequently published in the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences.Several other articles and papers were published have been published in esteemed periodicals. Served as a convener of Committe on Environment (1994-96).
