In recent years the spate of PIL in the courts or ‘litigation explosion’ shows people’ unflinching faith in the judiciary. When all democratic and public institutions have failed to succour the common man, he looks expectantly towards the judiciary. No doubt it has taken note of his miseries. In many quarters of society its new role has been severely criticised as ‘Judicial adventurism’. But the real question is: is judiciary a panacea? Can it set the entire system right? Have the big fish ever been taken to task? Has relief actually come to the common man? or is the judiciary riding a high horse? All these and many other related questions have been discussed thoroughly in this book. It presents a critical study of our judiciary’s new role in the present precarious circumstances. "Judicial Activism in India" merits a careful reading.
