Indian tradition recognizes three distinct ways in which Vedic hymns may be interpreted – the adhyatmika, that is the subjective, the adhibhautika, that is the objective and the adhidaivka, that is the one pertaining to gods. Sri Aurobindo attached the utmost importance to the first method of inertpretation. The author of the present work has adopted Sri Aurobindo’s method, which he considers to be the most autioritative, flawless and holistic in its scope, in the interpretation of select Vedic hymns.
