Kalatattvakosa series of the Indian Gandhi National Centre for the Arts has endeavoured to evolve an important modern device to grasp the essential thought and knowledge system of the Indian artistic and cultural tradition.  Through an indepth investigation into the primary sources of various Indological disciplines, the series aims at facilitating the reader to comprehend the interdisciplinary approach of Indological and arthistorical research.  The present volume Abhasa (Appearnace/Symbolic Form) is the sixth manifestation of the series devoted to key concepts of Indian art and deals with the abstract or symbolic forms containing closely related eight terms where the basic concept of abhasa, appearance or seemliness or reflection is inherent.  Abhasa helps to realize the structure even in the field of symbolic or invisible form.  This volume contaisn eight articles on the following concepts: abhasa, sadrsya—sarupya, anukarana/anukrti/anukirtana, chaya, bimbapratibimba, linga, pada and urttiriti.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Narasingha Charan Panda

Dr. Narasingha Charan Panda, reader in Sanskrit, Panjab University, Vishveshvaranand Vishva Bandhu Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies, Hoshiarpur, is wellknown among the scholars of Indology as a sincere and devoted researcher, who combines in him a comprehensive understanding of scholarly issues, impartial judge-ment and an exemplary clarity of expression. After graduating from Utkal University and Post-graduation and M.Phil degrees from Kurukshetra University, he obtained Ph.D. degree in vedic studies from Panjab University, Chandigarh and thus specialized himself in different Indological branches, like the Vedic Studies, Buddhism and Kashmir Saivism. In due course of time, he has qualified himself with Acharya in Buddhism, Acharya in Darsana Sastra, C.C. in German Language and Ayurveda Ratna. Dr. panda is the joint editor of the 'Kalatattvakosa' (Vol. VI) and the 'Glossary of Key Art Terms' of Indira Gandhi national Centre for the Arts. As an ardent student and a successful researcher of Indology he has contributed numerous learned research papers and edited some valuable works to his credit.
