Sadanand Kanavallli is a retired Professor of English. He has written, translated and edited 25 books. But his first love has always been writing on music. He has written biographies of sawai Gandharva, Panchaxari Gawai and Mallikarjun Mansur. Sadanand Kanavalli has known three generations of Hindustani musicians starting form Mallikarjun Mansur, Gangubai Hangal, Basavaraj Rajguru and so on. So, he is conversant with the Hindustani musical scenario of Karnataka. Sadanand Kanavalli has been writing extensively on Hindustani Musicians of Karnataka for well-nigh three decades.
