This book reexamines the Indian-Pakistani conflict over Kashmir in its current, war-threatening context. The focus of the study is on the period from the effective nuclearization of the dispute in 1998 through to the recent introduction of US troops into the region in connection with the war in Afghanistan. The author is an advocate of international intervention in regional conflicts and does not think leaving the contesting parties to settle their dispute is a responsible policy.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Robert G. Wirsing
The Author: Dr. Robert Wirsing is a South Asia regional specialist at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu, Hawaii. He has held academic posts at a number of universities and research institutions in the United States, India and Pakistan. Since 1965, he has made thirty research trips to the countries of South Asia. His publications include: Pakistan’s Security Under Zia, 1977-1988 (1991), India, Pakistan, and the Kashmir Dispute (1994), and Kashmir: Resolving Regional Conflict (1996).
