ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jamal Anwar
Dr. Jamal Anwar is a renowned geologist with vast experience in environmental studies, ecosystem, energy and integrated environmental management in Europe, Africa and Asia. His is associated with many international environmental activities-advisor to CARDMA, member of IUCN. The World Conservation Union. He actively contributes to scientific research and management program of IQU (Integrated Quality and Environmental Management), Berlin Germany, Geological Survey of Germany (BGR), National Research society of Germany (DFG) and European Union. Dr. Anwar has vast research, teaching and industrial experience with University of Kiel, Germany, University of Dhaka, Technical University Berlin, Petrobangla, Marathon Oil, Sun Oil, Youkong Ltd. (Korea), Government of Algeria. He actively took part in many international conferences in the USA, Canada, Japan, Holland, Israel etc. He lives in Germany but his mind occupies distress of the rural population of Bangladesh. Environmental depletion causing diseases, deaths and increasingly displacing the rural population. Arsenic poisoning is known since seven years but no mitigation program reached to the grass root of rural population. After two years of experiments in February 1999 he introduced a cheap pragmatic method of removing arsenic from drinking water using sunlight, air, earthen pot and sand.
