In this volume brought out to honour Prof. A. Neelameghan, the editors have put together invited papers from eminent information professionals. The papers represent ongoing research in areas of contemporary interest in Knowledge Organization, digital libraries and knowledge management in specialized areas. The papers have been categorized under five major themes: Knowledge organization; Interoperability, Digital Library and Information Retrieval; Knowledge Management in Specialized Areas; Information Society; and the Person and Associated Organizations. The papers in the first section discuss a wide range of issues that provide a good account of contemporary research and thinking in the area of knowledge organization. The papers in the second section focus on application of emerging technologies ivs-a-vis information retrieval. There is a useful paper on text mining in this section. The papers in the section on knowledge management in specialized areas present actual case studies of information support systems in specialized domains including Medicine, Socio-economics Development, Music and Religion. The papers in the fourth section explore the merging digital age and its possible implications for information systems and human resource development. Most of the papers relate to Prof. Neelameghan’s works, association with and impact on the corresponding field (s) in the information and knowledge management domains. The last section carries a few papers on Prof. Neelameghan, and his work in India, with international organizations, and in many developing countries of the world.
