The book entitled ‘Land Agriculture and Agrarian Transformation is a vivid documentation and analysis of the contemporary issues and challenges related to rapid agrarian changes processes of Nepal. This book is first of its kind because it is developed based on the extensive research by the team of senior researchers and scholars. Rural life in contemporary Nepal is more complex than it is described by some scholars on primary relationships and cooperation. The land based feudal structure backed by the rulers and elites kept nurturing discrimination, class exploitation and exclusion of the majority of the deprived and powerless people.
However, millions of such deprived and powerless people have kept the rest of the Nepalese alive by working hard in agriculture. Very few persons who controlled most of the resources and occupied power positions have blocked alteration in the existing unequal agrarian relations that ultimately led to a violent armed insurrection to challenge these inequalities. This book attempts to analyze these issues and processes of change.
In terms of thematic areas, this books covers relationship between land, agriculture and agrarian change, right to food and food security in the changing context, land based relationship between agrarian tension, armed conflict and human insecurity, struggle of small farmers for their existence, relationships between landlessness and agrarian change, land rights movements in Nepal, Need for re-orienting agricultural research, extension and education to address poverty, macro-economic perspective on agrarian transformation, political economy of agrarian transformations and political economy of conflict and agrarian change in Nepal.
