The Lawyers Collective Women’s Rights Initiative (LCWRI herein after) is a group of lawyers, law students and legal activities committed to the use of law as an effective instrument for empowering and changing the status of women in India. Since its inception in 1998, the LCWRI has been actively engaged with the entire legal regime of addressing the rights of women in law. Towards this, the LCWRI has over the recent past initiated, undertaken and participated in extensive research, advocacy, law reform, legal aid, documentation and publication work on gender based discrimination, justice and law. Special focus areas of the LCWRI include domestic violence, sexual harassment at workplace, matrimonial and family related matters, personal laws, reproductive rights, crimes and offences against women, sexual assault, trafficking in human beings, forced prostitution, sex-selective abortions, mental health and the constitutional equality for better use, implementation and the initiate and spearhead law reform processes, whenever required.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Indira Jaising

Indira Jaising is a senior advocate in the Supreme Court of India. She is founder secretary of the Lawyers' Collective, and Director of the Lawyers' Collective Women's Rights Initiative. She is editor of monthly magazine, The Lawyers, and has written extensively on women and the law, and on gender justice.
