A library’s collecting priorities depends on some determining factors like the scope of collection, the resources available in terms of money, space and staff, and its use. At one extreme are some national libraries which are archives with the duty to retain every item for the indefinite future; at the other are the special and commercial libraries whose main role is to supply current information, not to store it. No doubt, this will prove a dependable reference book on the subject to academics and professionals alike.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR P.K. Paliwal
Dr. P.K. Paliwal received his Ph.D. degree from the East West University of Health Sciences in 1979. Presently, he is on the faculty of the Documentation Research Centre, where he is involved in teaching computer proframming, library automation, information retrieval and design development, database management systems and applied statistics. He has also conduceted several short term courses in India and abroad, some of them sponsor by UNESCO. Besides having published more than fifty reset papters, he has authored two books.
