Livestock is playing a pivotal role in rural economy. The contribution of Animal Husbandry sector to the national GDP is also increasing substantially. A sound knowledge of livestock economics, marketing, business management and accountancy helps veterinarians to work in the field more effectively. Hence, the Veterinary Council of India has introduced a course entitled ‘Livestock Economics, Marketing and Business management’, incorporating fundamentals of Accountancy in the B.VSc.& A.H. degree programme. Each component of this course forms an independent and separate study by itself. The teachers offering the course need to refer varied and diversifed sources to collect the information and the students need to refer different books to update the knowledge. In order to make the task of teaching and learning comparatively easier, an attempt is made to bring out the compilation of various topics connected to livestock economics, marketing, business management and accountancy in the form of a handbook. 
Further, the rich experience of authors in the field of teaching, livestock farm management and training, the information becomes more educative for students as well as for the teachers.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K C Veeranna

Dr. K.C. Veeranna, B.V.Sc., M.V.Sc. Ph.D. & PGDEE, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary & A.H. Extension, Veterinary College, Bidar has 18 years of Teaching Experience in Undergraduate teaching in Extension and Livestock Economics Marketing and Business Management. He has completed 5 research projects. Presently holding DBT, GO1 sponsored Research project. He is the Consortium Partner Principal Investigator for NAIP (ICAR) sponsored research project. He has published 21 research articles in national and international journals, 30 Scientific articles and 50 Popular articles. Delivered 30 Radio talks, 22 Television programmes. Conducted over 100 Trainings for the Veterinarians and Farmers. He has been awarded Leelavathi Krishna Rao Award, State NSS Award 1999-2000 from Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of Karnataka, District Independence Day Award-2000, Bidar and Gram Seva Award-2003.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K S Gangadhar

Dr. K.S. Gangadhar, B.Sc, M.V.Sc., Ph.D., has served for more than 33 years in various capacities, starting his career as Veterinary Assistant Surgeon in 1973 in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Govt. of Karnataka. He served as Training Organizer (Animal Science) at Krishi Vignana Kendra, Hanumanamatti, for more than 10 years. As training organizer, he has developed necessary livestock units as infrastructure on the campus and initiated and conducted large number of training programmes for the benefit of farmers. He served as Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Extension from 1996 to 2005 and offered courses on livestock economics, marketing and business management for undergraduate students. He conducted large number of in-service training programmes for the benefit of veterinarians. He retired as founder Director of Extension in 2005 from the Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Karnataka. He has published 20 research articles and 70 popular articles in national and international journals. 

ABOUT THE AUTHOR K Satyanarayan

Dr. K. Satyanarayan, M.V.Sc., Ph.D., Associate Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension, Veterinary College, Hebbal, Bangalore is offering courses for undergraduate students of B.V.Sc. & A.M. in Extension and livestock economics marketing and business management. He has got rich experience in farm management activities as he has worked in Poultry farm, Broiler rabbit unit, Dairy unit, Sheep unit and Piggery farm of the University of more than 10 years. He has co-ordinated number of training programmes for In-service Veterinarians and farmers including farm women on different aspects of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry practices. He worked in ten university funded projects, one state funded project as principal investigator, one NATP project on Pigs as Co-Principal Investigator and working in one DBT project on Rabbits as Co-Principal Investigator. He has published more than 30 research articles and 32 popular articles in national and international journals. He Coordinated in production of two episodes on Veterinary and Dairy science Education for Yuva Bharath program in E-TV.
