This book tries to present the behaviour of livestock marketing in time and space in an agriculturally developed area of the country. Socio-economic variables affecting the marketing process of the livestock have also been taken into consideration. The book is written with a view to understand the mechanism and process of transaction of livestock in the country. It would provide a base for planning for livestock farming, establishment of livestock based industries in the country and also for agri-business dealing with animal products at local, national and international level. The present book consists of 7 chapters, excluding introduction. In the first chapter geographic condition of the area is described in brief. Chapter 2-5 deal with behaviour of marketing of different livestock i.e. cattle, buffalo, goats, and sheep in time and space. Socio-economic behaviour of marketing has also been well taken up. Chapter 6 explains the process of diversification of agriculture in the form of livestock husbandry evolved due to existing marketing network for live animals and their products in the area. Levels of employment generation through animal husbandry has also been described. Chapter 7 is the extract of the study which highlights the problem of livestock marketing and presents some suggestion. The book is also well illustrated with cited literature, diagrams, maps as well as tables.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ateeque Ahmad

Dr. Ateeque Ahmad is a reader in the Faculty of Science, Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He did his M.A. in Geography and obtained his M.Phil. In 1987 and was awarded a Ph.D. degree from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in the year 1990. He has credit of getting published more than dozens of research papers in the National and International journals. He had been a National Fellow of CSIR (1984-89), having specialization in the fields of Settlement Geography, History and Philosophy of Geography and Urban and Regional Planning.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Md. Minhajul Hoda

Dr. Md. Minhajul Hoda is Post Doctoral fellow in the department of Geography. He completed his doctoral degree form the same department in the year 2005. He has published a number of research papers on marketing of agricultural products and rural marketing system I national and international journals. He has attended and presented various research paper sin the national conferences. He was associated, as Senior research fellow with a Indian major research project on the topic “Marketing behaviour of Livestock and its effects on Diversification of Agricultural” during 2002 to 2004.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Nizamuddin Khan

Dr. Nizamuddin Khan is a Lecturer in department of Geography, A.M.U., Aligarh. He published books entitled (1) Agricultural development and Marketing and (2) An Introduction to Physical geography. He has written about two dozen of research papers, [published in national and international reputed journals especially in the field or rural and agricultural marketing. Dr. Khan has also received Young Geographer Prize and I.G.U. Scholarship. He has also visited many countries like Nepal, Czech republic, France, Iran and Italy to participate and deliver lectures in International Conferences.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S. Najmul Islam Hashmi

Dr. S. Najmul Islam Hashmi working as Senior Lecturer in the Department of geography at A.M.U., Aligarh. He has a first class career and was awarded the university medal for the first class first at the M.A. and M.Sc. he also obtained his Ph.D. in 1987 from A.M.U., Aligarh. He is devoted researcher and contributed many research papers to reputed Indian and Foreign journals and edited volumes.
