A great number of Tantric texts were composed in India. In due course it was felt necessary to compile digests or compendia in order to bring together in a single volume the main Tantric practices. One of the most popular of these compendia is the Mantramahodadhi, written in 1589 by Mahidhara. The text is accompanied by a Tika, entitled Nauka, written by the author himself. There are many manuscripts of the Mantramahodadhi in manuscript collections in India and Europe¦. The present publication is a reprint of an edition printed in manuscript from on loose leaves by the Samarahimsakadatta Press in samvat 1929 (AD. 1862). Copies of it are very rare and this reprint will make this carefully printed edition again easily accessible.
