It is a comprehensive study of two medicinal plants Momordica charantia L. which is a hypoglycemic agent, useful for the treatment of diabetes and Artemisia annua, contains artemisinin, effective for chlorwoquine and mafloquine resistant Plasnodium falciparum which causes acute cerebral malaria. Main emphasis is on In vitro studies of M. charantia & A. annua which includes complete regeneration of plant of M. charanta and callus cultures of A. annua and study of biochemical constituents at different morphogenetic stages. An attempt has been made to increase the amount of biochemicals by manipulating in vitro conditions. In A. annua emphasis is on the study of getting high levels of artemisinin from A. annua.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mala Agarwal

Dr. Mala Agarwal is presently working as Lecturer in Botany, posted at Government P.G. College, Chimanpura (Shahpura), JAIPUR. The author has a good academic record. She did her Ph.D. Degree from the University of Rajasthan. She has also done the P.G. diploma in Environmental Studies from the same University. This is author's second book. The first book of author named "Medicinal Plants" was published in 2002 and in the same year the first paper on noise was published in Everyman's Sciences Congress Association. Since then she has presented a number of papers on medicinal plants and on environment problems in a number of national / international seminars. She also has a good publication record in the form of research papers in reputed journals / edited books. She also presented a paper in Young Scientist Award programme of Indian Science Congress 2001, held at IARI, Pusa Road, New Delhi. The author in versatile and rated high in academics.
