ABOUT THE AUTHOR K. Shanmugavelayutham

K. Shanmugavelayutham (b. 1953) is a Professional Social Worker and a member of the Post graduate Faculty of the Department of Social Work, Loyola College, chennai. A Post Graduate in social Work, he earned his M.Phill, at Delhi School of Social Work, University of Delhi in 1979 and was awarded his Ph.d. in Social Work at Kashi Vidyapith, varanasi in 1992. Dr. Shanmugavelayutham possesses varied experience related to Post Graduate teaching, research and extension work. He is also the President of Professional Social Workers ‘ Forum, Chennai. He is Honorary Director of B.V.S.N. Murthy Centre for Special Children, Chennai and Hon. Consultant to K. Gopalakrishnan, Department of Neurology, Voluntary Health Service, chennai and T.S. Srinivasan, Department of Neurology. Public Health Centre, chennai. Besides being an author of over a dozen research papers he is also editor of Directory of Professional Social workers in Tamil Nadu and the author of ‘Mental Retardation – Parents’ role’ (in Tamil), and a look on ‘social Legislation and Social change ‘. He has also published articles of varied interest.
