Military system of the Mughal was Turkish in its origins and retained the Turkish character and words to the end. With their introduction of the two arms-cavalry and artillery, warfare entered a new stage in India. The two arms constituted a formidable instrument for the Mughuls to conquer and to hold their vast empire in India. But warfare remained a tumultuous and desultory affair as in the past. No effort was made to develop the art of war. Hence no military tradition developed under them. In this work an attempt has been made to give an account of military system of the Mughuls. The work is expected to be of use to the general readers. All those who want to work on the military systems, students, teachers and policy makers will find it extremely helpful.
