The book deals about the fresh religious movements which appeared in India since the effective introduction of Western influence. The old religions are the soil from which the modern Movements spring, and it is found that the seed, in the man, has been sown by Missions. The first fresh religious movement appeared in 1828, and the intellectual awakening of India began to manifest itself distinctly about the same period. Though great systems like Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, and Muhammadanism are not included in this study, but still their constant activity and influence is kept in mind throughout the investigation. Thus the period extends from 1803-1910.
