The entire Vedic age comes alive in the scrappy evidence the age left behind. IT is obvious that the Vedic age was melting pot of settlers from various lands. The seal gives just the name; but the identity is established through Puranic evidence. The mythified stories do not belie the genealogies of Vedic kings and Rishis, and the major events of their lives. The seals help abstract debris of legends, making the Puranas historical records. The seals were mementoes of rites and there are seals of lawmakers, founders of faiths, carpenters, and animal-keepers’ guilds. The author rejects the theory that the seals were commercial stamps for the export of gods.
