This book addresses the larger issues of monetary and payments cooperation in South Asia in the context of ongoing efforts at regional integration in the region. Taking the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) as the case study, it explores, how the organization with renewed mandate can still become a viable instrument of regional cooperation not only in South Asia, but also the whole of Asia.
It further examines the trends and pattern of various transactions cleared through such mechanism like ACU, and correlates these trends with intra-regional and external trade pattern of the member countries. Also it analyses the implications of various policy changes introduced by ACU at different stages.
