This book on Monetary Economics which combines within its fold a systematic discussion of institutions, theory and policy concerning money and credit in India. This book analyses the theories of money, income and interest. This discussion on money is quite extensive. It covers the functions and significance of money, the demand for and the supply of money, the theory of money and prices and also the monetary standards. The theory of employment and income determination has been explained in Keynesian framework and often reference has been made to post-Keynesian developments in income theory. The analysis of the theory of interest and the problems of inflation have been given an extended treatment. This is perspective from which money and credit have been studied in this book. The book has been designed to serve as graduate and post-graduate and other professional courses. While it incorporates selectively several new developments within each part, it leaves out such dead-wood topics as the gold standard, the history of the Indian currency, etc. However, diagrams have been given extensively to illustrate the verbal exposition.
