After 35 years in central banking, S.S. Tarapore, for the past four years, has turned to writing a weekly column on economic and financial matters. Through his weekly columns, which are avidly read in the financial sector, the author has widened the outreach of the debate which hitherto had been restricted to those familiar with the esoterics of finance. Complex issues, free from jargon, are discussed, contributing to a wider and better understanding of these issues. The present volume covers issues relating to monetary management, institutional reforms in banks, non-banks and markets (government securities and gold), and fiscal and external sector management.
