Dance music is different from concert music. For the success of a Bharathanatya performance the accompanying music should fulfill several criteria. The majority of dance concerts are marred by the poor quality of accompanying music. In this book Dr. S. Bhagyalekshmy discusses the various aspects of dance music and throws light on the general defects and shortcomings of dance music. She also deals with the tenets of music dance and describes an ideal performance of Bharathanatya. Having learned both Bharathanatyam and Carnatic Music and having given stage performance in both, Bhagyalekshmy shares her first hand experiences and intimate knowledge of dance accompanying music, instrumentalists, programme organizers, stage-settings and many more minute details that go into the completion of a dance-recital. Surely this book which is her thesis will prove beneficial to the students and performers of Bharathanatyam and also the artists who provide music to Bharathanatya.
