Music is an acoustic medium. Every aspect of musical structure which allows compositions to differ from one another is conveyed in the sound-pressure waves which make up a musical performance. However, music-listening can be considered as a complex interaction of the processes of perception, cognition, problem solving, analogical and metaphorical reasoning and emotional mapping. The present book provides a comprehensive analysis of the diverse aspects of music perception and cognition. It will serve as a highly useful reference tool not only for teachers and students of music but also for all general readers who are interested in music.
