Native Art of India

The book comes in an attempt to rehabilitate the endangered native art traditions through extensive documentation. It presents the efforts by Kerala Lalithakala Akademi over recent years in documenting indigenous art resources through several camps, workshops and seminars in which over 700 artists from different Adivasi, folk and tribal communities participated. The volume throws light on the richness of the native art and its vibrant and diverse art practices. It brings out the sustaining energy of the ethnic art tradition through essays on various tribal art tradition such as the Saura paintings, the Kalamkari tradition, Madhubani paintings, Dhokra art, Warli life and paintings of Maharashtra and the art of the Santhals. The indigenous art of the North-east of India is also focused on. It has numerous illustrations of paintings and other art products and crafts items and pictures showing the people of the tribes engaged in art work.
