Resources are features of environment that are of value to man in one form or the other. Natural resources include forests, rivers, minerals, solar energy and the energy of sea etc. There are natural and man-made resources. The man-made resources include machinery, transport system & artificial fertilizers etc. The less tangible resources include attractive scenery, a healthy climate and the skills and expertise of groups of people. The recognition of the finite resources of the earth and the growing demand for them has led to an appreciation of the need for their careful management which can be in simple worlds called as the conservation of resources. This involves establishing the extent of existing resources, seeking new ones and making more efficient use of existing resources. The long felt demand of under-graduate and post-graduate students of geography as well as preparing for various professional and competitive examination inspired us to write this book. This book brings out many facets of Indian resources and their management. No doubt this subject is very vast and volumes have been written to cover the subject but still there is vaccum which needs more and more on this subject. The author has made a humble attempt to do justice with the subject by writing this book. The book has been written from the standpoint of broadening the horizon of the general readers and students about the natural resources and its management. The main objective of writing this book is to meet the growing demand of a suitable book on natural resources for college and university students at under graduate and post graduate levels. Besides the book will be 0pf immense value for those who intend to appear in competitive examinations. Moreover, it will cater to the needs of those scholars who are interested in adding to their existing knowledge about natural resources of India. The book is the outcome of the experience of the author as a teacher of geography to degree classes. Thus it is hoped that this book will do a Yoeman’s service to make readers understand the basics of Indian resources and their conservation. The book is meant for the graduate and post-graduate students of Indian Universities in general and for common readers and teachers in particular.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Navaid Shabir Qazi

Mr Navaid Shabir Qazi born at Kathuna, J&K, on 1st of April 1983, did his graduation with Medical Subjects in 2002 from Degree College Bhadarwah. After doing his graduation in science he took geography as an additional subject and passed the same with high marks in 2003. The author did his M.Sc. Geography from Jammu University in 2005. After his academic career he immediately joined hands with Prof. S.A. Qazi as a co-Author. However, he has contributed a lot during his Post Graduation to the earlier books of Prof. S.A. Qazi who is a prolific writer in the field of geography.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR S A Qazi

Prof. S.A. Qazl born at Bhadarwan J&K, did hius graduation in 11972 from Jammu University,Post-Graduation (Geography) in 1974 from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, M.A. (Urdu) and B.Ed. from Jammu University and D.B.M.S. from Calcutta. He was appointed as lecturer in 1978 and at present he is Head of thew Department of Geography, Govt. Post Graduate College Bhadarwah (Jammu University). He is a life member of National Association of Geographers, India. He has more than 26 years of service at his credit and hence having a teaching experience of the same duration to the services in all the corners of Jammu province. Among thousands of his students several are holding high positions, like those of Choudary Lal Singh, Choudary Babu Ram, Dr. Naitar Singh Raina, Prof. Sohan Lal Bhagat Senior Grade Lecturers (Degree College Khatua), Shahid Anayatullah (KAS) D.C. excise and and Taxation J&K Govt. and Joginder Singh Rana (KPS) Dy. Superintendent of Police (Bhadarwah). As a prolific writer, the author has several publications in his field like “Systematic Geography of India and Principles of Physical Geography, which have widely been accepted as standard text books at B.A./B.Sc. and P.G. levels in most of the Indian Universities. The University of Jammu has also recommended one of the valuable books of the author titled Systematic Geography of India, for studies at P.G. level. The author has also to his credit a number of research papers and articles on the subject. He has participated in various Refresher Courses, Seminars and Conferences held at the state and national level from time to time. At present he is working on various projects such as Human Geography, Indian Agriculture, Geography of Resources, Political Geography of India etc.
