This book attempts to evaluate the process of implementation of select development schemes and programmes in Tamil Nadu, in the backdrop of the principles of the New Public Management. It analyses their objectives, target groups, patterns of funding, salient features, impacts and achievements. The perspectives of the multi-stakeholders have also been examines and explained. The development schemes studied here include Indira Awas Yojana; Integrated Sanitary Complex of Women and Children; Food for Work under Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana; District Supply and Marketing Society under Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarozgar Yojana and Non-conventional Energy Sources-BIOGAS. G. Palanithurai teaches Political Science and Development Administration at the Post-Graduate level in Rural University, Gandhigram. Tamil Nadu, Currently he is the chairman of the Department of Politics and Public Administration. He has a number of books to his credit. He was awarded Shastri Indo Canadian Institute fellowship to visit Canada and the US to write a book on Ethnic Conflict Management in Canada and India. Vanishree Joseph is a Research Fellow, pursuing her research programme in "Gender and Governance". She has been involving in organizing Panchayat women leaders for social development activities. She has received awards for her contribution in teh forms of articles and presentations in the areas of gender and governance based on her field activities.
