This book attempts at reinforcing the human cause for freeing the world from nuclear weapons. Providing background of nuclear arms control and the concept and history of nuclear-free zones, it makes political and comparative analysis of the proposals of the treatise f Antarctica, outer space and Sea-bed. Further, the book studies the Latin America nuclear-free zone, established by the Tiatelolco Treaty: and the South Pacific nuclear-free zone, established by the Rarotonga Treaty. It also evaluates the implications of nuclear-free zones and their connections. Finally, it explores the possibilities of attainting nuclear-free world based on non-violent approaches of Mahatma Gandhi.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR P. Moorthy
P. Moorthy, an M.Sc. (Peace-Making) from Madurai Kamaraj University and Ph.D from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, has been teaching arms control, national security, peace, disarmament, human resource management, conflict resolution and international relations in Pondicherry University since 1988. Dr. Moorthy is also associated with national Movement for counseling the Youth and Mission Develop India Network. He has published two books and edits a quarterly knowledge society Journals. He was selected as a visiting peace fellow of Shanti Peace Foundation, Coimbatore; and is now nominated as International Educator of the year 2005 by International Biographical centre, Cambridge, England.
