The development and analysis of constructive algorithms in Numerical Mathematics has become a focus of applied mathematics since the practical realization of these algorithms by electronic computers is not longer restricted to trivial examples. This book describes algorithmic solutions whose basic ideas are common to a variety of mathematical problems. By means of the methods presented, the reader will acquire the skills besides a fundamental knowledge to successfully work on related subjects in this field.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR H. Prautzsch

Hartmut Prautzsch studied Mathematics and Computer Science at the Technische Universitaet Braunschweig. From 1986 to 1987, he was a postdoctoral and junior research fellow at the IBM Research Lab in Yorktown Heights, where he pioneered new techniques for the analysis of subdivision methods with C.A. Micchelli. After three years as assistant professor at the Mathematics Department of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, Ny, he became professor of Applied Geometry and Computer Graphics at the Universitaet Karlsruhe in1990. Additionally, he has been a member of the board of the Institute for Scientific Computing and Mathematicsl Modelling at Karlsruhe since 1992, and in 2002 he succeeded J. Hoschek as co-editor-in-chief of the journal Computer Aided Geometric Design.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR W. Boehm

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Boehm graduated from the Technical University of Berlin. He is a co-founder of Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) in Germany and was a visiting professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY; at the Northern Polytechnic University in Xi, and at the Universidad Central de Venezela in Caracas.
