A practising obstetrician and gynecologist may be faced with a sudden obstetric emergency at any time. Equipping the obstetrician with knowledge about normal labor and delivery is a must, but the doctor should also have adequate knowledge about the complications, which may arise, the importance of early detection, analytical thinking, and on-the-spot decision making. Whether it is shoulder dystocia, catastrophic postpartum hemorrhage, or an anaphylactic reaction to an injection in the office, it will require prompt response. Preparation for potential emergencies requires planning. This is where the importance of having standard operating procedures (SOPs) come into place. It is, therefore, a source of immense satisfaction for me to write the foreword for this book. The book is a comprehensive account of the entire obstetric process, each section covering antepartum, labor, postpartum, medical disorders in pregnancy, infections in pregnancy as well as gynecological disorders in pregnancy.
