This book is an amalgamation of two of my passions-studying history and writing poetry. It is a result of a project of choice for the school, for which Delhi was the topic that was taken to be elaborated not only historically but poetically too. The journey of exploring the history of Delhi, the visits to the monuments and photography brings to life the era long left to textbooks.
The poems penned are of different styles – free verse, haiku and limerick. The style was picked up as per the subject /monument in each section. Besides monuments, the culture of Delhi has also been touched upon by taking a walk through history of it’s food, art, music and poetry. Delhi has a rich cultural heritage and of that I had to restrict the monuments to :
• Qutab Minar
• Purana Qila
• Humayun’s tomb
• Lal Qila
• Chandni Chowk
• Jama Masjid
• Rashtrapati Bhavan
• India Gate
Writing this book has been a truly satisfying journey – not only historically, but the research and photographs taken also uncovered the other wonders in the city of Delhi – the variety of food to choose from as well as it’s culture.
The book would be of use to lovers of heritage to gain some beautiful insights of the soul of the city of Delhi from a young adult’s eyes.
