The present research based publication ‘Online Library Initiatives’ seeks to study the global online information services available in the modern day digital libraries and web based resource organizations. The digital libraries and web sites in the advanced countries as well as Afro-Asian Countries are fast changing over to and using available information technology to provide and meet the needs of the potential users. Among the East Asian Countries, Japan is most advanced in terms of using information technology, though Republic of Korea is on a par with Japan. China is becoming a networked in the near future. National Library of New Zealand is supporting creation of an environment where information is available and widely used. India, Indonesia and Pakistan are not in better position, though in India after independence in 1947, there had been a proliferation of universities and R and D Organizations. No doubt, INSDOC and some national laboratories have done quite appreciable work. While videodiscs and laserdiscs have not been able to replace CD-ROMs, the new DVD (Digital Video Disc, or Digital Versatile Disk, depending [in part] on the user’s marketing goals) Technology is currently being advertised as the strongest contender among the next generation of optical media. The DVD Technology may well replace CD-ROMs.
