This study presents a detailed systematic account of the ‘Orchidaceae of Nagaland’ based on 63 genera, 241 species and 4 varieties, with a critical evaluation of the various taxonomic features provided for these taxa; keys for identification; up-to-date nomenclature; detailed descriptions with illustrations; geographical distribution; concise notes on ecology, morphology, importance and uses, conservation and cultivation. It also presents an introductory chapter on the history of previous works on the Orchidology of India, particularly Nagaland; an introduction to Nagaland as regards its location, physiography and climate; a suitable bibliographical account; index of the scientific names and some photographs. Investigations over the last many years revealed 32 genera, 153 species and 4 varieties as new additions to the ‘Orchidaceae of Nagaland’, including 2 new taxa, 2 re-discoveries and 4 new records for India, 9 new records for North Eastern India, besides several rare and threatened taxa of immense floriculture and scientific value needing immediate attention for protection and conservation.
