Panchayat is an old conception in India and it is an earlier concept of democracy in the history of civilization. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alok K. Pramanik

Alok Kumar Pramanik, (b. 1954) obtained his M.Com., L.L.B. degrees from the University of Calcutta. At present he is working in the Department of Commerce, Bhatter College, Dantan, Midnapore. He had also been in the Department of Commerce with Farm Management, in Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, West Bengal, as a Guest Faculty. Sri Pramanik has participated in many National and International Conferences and also presented papers. He has contributed a number of papers to the books edited by renowned academicians and also edited a number of books. He has many articles to his credit published in reputed Indian and Foreign Journals. He is the Associate Editor of Vidyasagar University Journal of Commerce and Life Member of different academic organizations.

Ratna Ghosh Smt. Ratna Ghosh (b.1959) obtained her M.A. degree in Modern History from Calcutta University. AT present, she is teaching in the Deptt. of History, Bhatter College, Dantan, Midnapore, (W.B.) She has nine years teaching experience. She has participated in many conferences and presented papers.
