There are recurrent motifs that appear in Paresh’s images. The boats are patent in almost all his work. To him, they are hypnotic in character. They are not only symbols of movement and journey but are also evocative of his boyhood memories. Then there are the old buildings with their moldering surfaces, water bodies, the nayak and the nayika, the archetypal man and woman, who reenact the drama of life without which the world would cease to continue. There is a strong under current of eroticism in these male and female figures, as well as the birds and flowers that he loves to introduce in his compositions. They pulsate with a range of possibilities — trysts, intrigues, romance, passion. The other ongoing engagement that we see in Paresh’s visual language is his fascination for exploring textures. This is noticed in his experimentations in all the mediums. Here we get a glimpse of his versatility. In this forty-ninth solo show, he is showcasing drawings, mixed media, watercolours, oils, sculptures, photographs and installation.
