This compendium of 31 papers attempts to explore and reinterpret the works of major partition fiction and films to critically understand the trauma of separation during the turbulent times of Partition of India. It focuses on the partition violence, communal identity, plight of women, scourge of riots and communal disharmony, dislocation and disintegration, and atrocities on women.
The novels and films studied in this book include Train to Pakistan, Ice Candy Man, Clear Light of the Day, Sunlight on a Broken Column, Difficult Daughters, A Bend in the Ganges, Tamas, Garam Howa, Pinjar, Khamosh Pani, Dharamputra, and Hey Ram.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Farzana S. Ali
Dr. Farzana S. Ali is presently working as an Associate Professor & HOD English at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Arts/ Com(eve) College Nagpur. She is MA (Eng) B.Ed , M Phil, SET, PhD. She has a total teaching experience of 24 years and is a Senate member of RTM Nagpur University. She is a PhD Guide & has edited books entitles WOMEN WRITERS IN ENGLISH -NEW PERSPECTIVES, Partition…The trauma of partitioned lives in films & fiction and glimpses of partition in south asian fiction. Her areas of interest include Indian Writing in English, Women writing & Partition Literature. Her articles have been published in many National & International Journals. She has attended many Seminars / Conferences / Workshops/ Refresher courses as Resource person & delivered lectures on literary aspects, NAAC Seminars & Global issues.
