Pastoral Economy

This book attempts to give most commonly used methods of pastoral economy. The livestock population is playing an important role in the economy of the state. The livestock farming system has superiority over crop rising with respect to growth, stability and resource conservation under dry condition. An attempt has been made in this study with main objectives: to study the composition pattern of livestock and to know factors responsible for change in magnitude of livestock composition in the district. To find out the present situation about the pastoral activities in the area on the basis of secondary data to be collected from official records. To understand the basic problems about the cattle rearing by the personal interview of the farmers and herd’s men engaged in the occupation. This book is has been divided into eight chapters, each dealing with different aspects of the study viz., the first chapter briefly describes the objectives of the study, physical character of the district like location and extent, physiography, drainage, soil, climate, land use water resources and historical background of the district, socio economic character, livestock, population growth, main species, livestock concentration zone, livestock combination region, animal husbandry practices, migration pattern, infrastructure for pastoral development veterinary facilities, marketing, dairy production, wool production, leather production, meat production etc.
