This Book: “Plantation Management: A Study of the Management Practices in Rubber Plantation Industry in India and Malaysia” is the outcome of a major Research Project financed by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is based on an extensive field investigation in India and Malaysia conducted during March 1988 to March 1993 and a revisit to the field in January 2003. This revisit enabled us to update the data and make necessary revisions in the earlier findings. The Management practices followed in Rubber Plantation Industry in India were analysed, assessed and also compared with that in Malaysia, in the light techniques, usually used in business and industry. The recommendations emerging from the study are useful to all those who are concerned with the modernization of the rubber plantation industry. This book will be found useful by Researchers, Policy makers, Managers and Personnel in the Plantation Industry, particularly, the rubber plantation industry, and welcome it as a modest but pioneering contribution to the studies on plantation management in India, Malaysia and other rubber producing countries in the world.
