Understaffing, inadequate training, and deficient infrastructure, have resulted in an over-all poor image of the Police in the country particularly in the field of detection of crimes. This image has received a further down-grade in the years after independence. However, despite all handicaps the Police have battled with the problem valiantly with a sagging morale. With his background of nearly four decades in the Police, first as a fraction of the erstwhile “Steel Frame†of the British Colonial regime and after 1947, in the top rungs of the Police in the country, the author has felt that despite “odds, the Police have shown splendid results in the field of investigation which do require common recognition. An enumeration of some of these cases was required as much to boost the morale of the investigative Police as to help in placing a correct image of the Police before the people. The author has already published two volumes covering about sixty cases of importance of this nature. This volume carries the tally to meet the 100 mark, which was the author’s target. The present volume provides a window to an important aspect of Police functioning in the country. Prevention and detection of crimes and the maintenance of law and order are, broadly speaking, the Core of Police work in the country. This book is the author’s contribution in laying bare some aspects of Police work in the field of investigation of crimes, which is little understood and even less appreciated.
