Political Theory and Political Thought

Political Theory, is seen here as a discipline of a wider subject. Political Science, has always been marching towards great heights. It has always enlivened itself to newer challenges and has, in the process, offered remedies to the problems coming in its way. From time to time, Political Theory has attempted to give new orientations to concepts such as democracy, liberty, equality, rights, justice, citizenship and property. Terms such as ‘identity’ and ‘civil society’ bring in new dimensions. Political Thought, both Western as well as India, ancient as well as modern, too has sought to view such concepts from time to time. It is interesting to discuss, for example, Mill’s views on democracy, together with what Nehru thinks about it. it is instructive to know what Kautilya thought of the state in ancient Indian on the one hand, and Marx on the concept of state in the nineteenth century.
