ABOUT THE AUTHOR Sarva Daman Singh

Professor Sarva Daman Singh, M.A., Ph.D. (London), Ph.D. (Qld.), won five gold medals during the course of a brilliant academic career at universities of Lucknow and London. He has held chairs of Indian history, culture and archaeology in more institutions than one; and has taught at the University of Lucknow, the National Academy of Administration at Mussoorie, the Vikram University at Ujjain, in India, and the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. His publications include research papers too numerous to list, and monographs as The Archaeology of the Lucknow Region (Lucknow, 1972), and Polyandry in Ancient India (Delhi, 1978), besides the First Edition of this book published from Leiden in 1965. In international conferences in Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, his views have always commanded the attention of the scholarly world.
