The book estimates the volume of migration to Assam during 1951-1991 by applying sound demographic tools. It seeks to put at rest the wild speculation regarding the volume of migration made by different interest groups to suit their convenience. It provides an exposition of the various demographic tools used in the work before applying the same for the purpose of arriving at the estimates. The book also splits the estimated migrants into (i) inter-state and international and (ii) legal and illegal. Further, it assesses the total effect of migration on the growth of population of the same during the study period by taking into account both the migrants and their offspring. The book is likely to be immensely helpful in properly understanding the population dynamics of Assam. It is also likely to be extremely useful to all interested readers and policy makers in particular.
