Pottery is a very old art that has been in existence in Manipur since time immemorial. The pottery exclusive to Manipur is in a perfect unification with other aspects of the total system, adjusting physical environment, social life and social process for the continuity of social structure. Besides, excavated porcelains and to some extent, methods adopted by Manipuri potters give some notion of the influence of the South Asian Culture.
