ABOUT THE AUTHOR J R Mudakavi

J R Mudakavi completed M.Sc. in Chemistry from I.I.T. Bombay in 1972. Later he joined Indian Institute of Technology Madras, for D.I.I.T. program in Instrumentation and completed his Ph.D. on the 'Separation and Determination of trace quantities of Platinum and Palladium' in 1977. At present he is Principal Research Scientist, at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. During 1986 to 1988 he worked as a Visiting Scientist in Perkin Elmer Corporation Ltd., at Ueberlingen, West Germany where he specialised on the Matrix Modification, Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry and Hydride Generation AAS. His current research interests include environmental pollution control, modern instrumental methods of analysis, trace and ultra trace determination of metals and organics, process development and activated carbon fibres. Dr. Mudakavi has guided one Ph.D. and 10 M.E., M.Sc. students. He has 30 years research experience in these areas and published more than 75 papers in national and international journals and chaired several sessions in the national seminars symposia etc. He has been conferred the Best Engineering Material Development Award for the development of Activated Carbon Fabric for use in breathing masks. Dr. Mudakavi has undertaken a number of consultancy projects with WIDIA, HEG, I.I.C., TANFAC, KSPCB, BWSSB, National Bureau of Accreditation, UGC, DST, etc.
