Tribals constitute the poorest among the poor. The Production and sale of Minor Forest Produce provides sustenance for them. Formerly they were subjected to exploitation by the village merchant and moneylender. The Corporations were set-up by State Governments to help the tribals to get a better price for their produce. The GCC in Andhra Pradesh and TDCC in Orissa are entrusted with the task. It is known that the tribals in Orissa are much poorer than the tribals in Andhra Pradesh. This study seeks to evaluate the outcomes of the efforts of GCC in Andhra Pradesh and TDCC in Orissa. Both these organizations undertake the tasks of improving credit performance, supplying domestic requirements of tribals at reasonable prices and enhancing value addition of the MFP by processing. This is a comparative study of GCC and TDCC. ABOUT THE AUTHOR K. Uma Shankar Patnaik

K. Uma Shankar Patnaik has been awarded the first Ph.D. from Department of Economics, School of Social Science, University of Hyderabad in 1986. He was associated with the institutions like Administrative Staff College of India, Andhra Pradesh Education Services, Institute of Development and Planning Studies and Pondicherry Central University prior to joining University of Hyderabad as Reader in Economics. He has published so far three books and forty articles in reputed Indian and International Journals and presented a number of papers at national and international level conferences / seminars. He has completed six research projects funded by various Government Organisations and UGC. And one ongoing project is being financed by ICSSR. His specializations are in the areas of Agricultural Economics, Growth and Development Theories and Applied Econometrics.
